What’s great about Steen again?
Steen continues to refine his sculpture technique in his newest exhibition. The pieces are sleek, biomorphic forms that strike a balance between a scientific aesthetic and, dare I say, sensuality.
The artist draws inspiration from nature for his work. His Tied Up series evokes the appearance of molecular diagrams or crystalline structures. The addition of colored leather straps add depth and create an illusion of tension in the sculpture, coupled with deliberate sexual undertones (which the artist implies with the series name).

Meanwhile, his Organic Movement series represent a more fluid approach, with more curves and asymmetry that differ from the structured nature of the Tied Up pieces. The sculpture above looks like an ebony amoeba in motion or an abstract, four-legged creature from another dimension. What adds to the appeal is that the Organic sculptures show different perspectives from various angles, making them a versatile home piece (with several possibilities for placement and repositioning).
