What’s great about Gioele again?
Gioele's artworks toy with the way we perceive the world and the process of art creation. In his latest piece, what appears to be a textured canvas layered with paint reveals itself, upon closer inspection, as a flat surface printed by the artist.
Gioele meticulously plans his paintings using computer software and AI tools. After printing the 'painting' onto canvas, he applies multiple coats of varnish until achieving the desired effect. His abstract works questions the role of technology in artmaking, and whether it enhances or changes how a viewer might perceive a work.
(I showcased Gioele's earlier work and delved into his process here.)

In the new work above, Gioele creates this beautiful aura surrounding what seems to be a missing central piece. He is referencing classical paintings of figures painted with auras, but subverts the original theme by removing the figure and focusing on the aura instead.
The colors are radiant and look like the work of layers of paint colors, but in reality was built with stylus pens and digital software. What makes Gioele incredible as an artist is his ability to create these patterns that diffuse and set like real paint.
Where can I see his new work?
The artist’s newest exhibition will open in Almine Rech Gallery London on April 11. Most recently, Gioele created the video for a Rufus Wainwright retrospective concert hosted by the Paris Philharmonic. He also completed a partnership with the luxury brand Valentino, which included outdoor European marketing campaigns that used his painting concepts, like below:

How much are Gioele’s works?
His paintings cost $10k and up, depending on size and medium.
