What’s great about Anne again?
Anne’s paintings peer into domestic set pieces and our inner lives. Impeccably detailed, they depict interiors hiding hints of a more carnal side, usually represented by a body part, a tool, or a subversive symbol. My previous post on her work can be found here.
The artist continues to dabble in the idea of our compartmentalized lives. The pieces are focused on how these pristine and sterile rooms in a house may collide with the secrets and fantasies we harbor behind (partially) closed doors. In the case of the painting highlighted above, it depicts the resident in flagrante delicto in the upstairs bedroom.
Anne showcases her technical precision through intricate recreations of wallpaper and floor tiles influenced by Pennsylvania Dutch folk art. In the painting below, traditional furniture and wallpaper bear witness to a person’s bare bum, as red as the wallpaper roses, from a strong hand.
